A hands-on workshop to make a festive felt flower bouquet from deadstock felt and fabric, with no experience needed.
Festive Felt Flowers runs at Abbey House Museum on Thursday 10 December, with sessions throughout the day. You'll be making your own festive felt bouquet from deadstock felt and fabric, drawing on the Victorian tradition of handmaking flower decorations to adorn clothes and the home. No experience is needed and all crafting abilities are welcome: instructions and materials are provided, though you're encouraged to bring your own fabric scraps or ornaments to personalise your creation.
The setting adds its own history. Abbey House Museum is an interactive venue in Kirkstall that lets you step back into Victorian Leeds: Stephen Harding Gate on the ground floor recreates a 19th-century high street, and the first floor houses the Childhood and Community Galleries, filled with authentic toys from the collection. The museum was saved from closure in 2024 and now programmes family sessions, school holiday activities, adult study days, curator talks and community events.

Across the road, in the grounds of Kirkstall Abbey — one of the country's most complete Cistercian ruins — sits the Abbey Cafe, if you fancy a coffee before or after. The workshop runs on Thursday 10 December across multiple times, and it's under £10.
