Fat Freddy's Drop perform their debut album 'Based On A True Story' with special guest DJ Nightmares On Wax at the O2 Academy Leeds.
Fat Freddy's Drop play the O2 Academy Leeds on Tuesday 20 October, with DJ Nightmares On Wax as special guest. It's part of a 51-date tour taking them through Australia, Aotearoa, Europe and the UK, and the Leeds date is one of the few UK stops.
They're touring their debut album, Based On A True Story, which they released independently in 2005 as ten slices of future funk. The set will be a run through that record, so it's the early material they're focusing on here rather than the later stuff. It's a long way back to where they started, and the whole tour is built around that one album.
There's a bit more to this return than just the setlist, though. These are the band's first shows since the sudden death of founding member Chris 'MU' Faiumu, and they've come back together with the shared decision to keep going. It's their first time on stage since then, so the night carries that as much as the music.
