Five-week printmaking course at Leeds Print Workshop covering drawing, chiaroscuro, colour mixing and monoprints.
Leeds Print Workshop is running a five-week course on creative portraiture this autumn, with sessions on Wednesday mornings from 23 September to 21 October. It's a multi-disciplinary one, working across drawing, printmaking and painting rather than sticking to just one medium.
Over the five weeks, you'll cover a fair bit of ground. There are sessions on chiaroscuro—the play of light and shadow—and on facial proportions, so you'll be looking at how to build a face from the ground up. You'll also get into colour mixing with acrylics, and then move over to the print side of things, using oil-based inks and professional etching presses to make monoprints. It's a good mix of the observational and the experimental, and you'll end up with a few different ways of looking at the same subject.
The course is held at Leeds Print Workshop, based in Patrick Studios at LS9 7EH. It's a membership-based, not-for-profit printmaking studio and co-operative in the city centre, open to anyone with an interest in print. They run workshops and courses in a range of traditional printmaking processes and offer facility access to members, all driven by a mission to provide an affordable and accessible workshop space. The studio is a short walk from the city's train and bus stations, so it's easy to get to from across town.
