Album launch show pairing Duncan Evans and the Weeping Starlight's post-punk melancholy with Floozie's eccentric alt-pop.
Duncan Evans and the Weeping Starlight play Seven Arts on Saturday 14 November, with Floozie opening the night. It's an album launch show, so the set will be built around the new record.
Between the two acts, the evening puts two very different sounds on the same bill. Duncan Evans and the Weeping Starlight describe their work as post-punk melancholy, and they put it in folk terms: cutting deep into the dark and primal spirit of folk music. It's the kind of description that suggests the songs lean more on mood and atmosphere than on a particular beat, with the post-punk side bringing the weight and the folk side bringing the melody. As an album launch, the night is about hearing that new material out in the open for the first time.
Floozie takes the earlier slot. Their sound is alt-pop, and they describe it as gloriously eccentric, something they say burns with a rare and compelling life force. It's a bright, off-kilter contrast to the darker, more stripped-back tone Evans brings to the second half of the night.
