Chamber opera company Diva Opera stages Rossini's 'La Cenerentola' in period costume and in the original language at the Clothworkers Centenary Concert Hall.
Diva Opera bring Rossini's La Cenerentola to the Clothworkers Centenary Concert Hall on Saturday 24 October, from 7:30pm to 10:30pm. It's the operatic version of the Cinderella story: a young woman's kindness wins over everyone she meets, including a prince searching for a bride, and the score plays with disguise and mistaken identity. Diva Opera present it in period costume and sung in the original Italian, with support from The Laidlaw Opera Trust.
Behind the production are director Wayne Morris and choreographer Jenny Weston, with Music Director Bryan Evans on piano. The cast is led by Melissa Gregory, Joseph Doody and Matthew Hargreaves. It's a chamber opera, so the focus stays on the singers and the piano rather than a full orchestra.
Diva Opera is Britain's foremost chamber opera company, founded in 1996 by soprano Anne Marabini Young and Music Director Bryan Evans MBE. Since then they've given more than 2,500 performances of 50 different operas and concert programmes across the UK, the Channel Islands and Europe. Among their highlights are a staging of La Cenerentola at La Fenice Opera House in Venice back in 2004, and the party scene from Die Fledermaus at the Royal Albert Hall with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, with José Carreras and Dame Kiri Te Kanawa as special guests.
