Culture Day at the Leeds Irish Centre with the Leeds Irish Choir, Irish dancing schools, arts and literature and a session by Carmel Kelly.
Culture Day comes to the Leeds Irish Centre on Sunday 25 October, with the Leeds Irish Choir taking centre stage. It's a full day of Irish music, dance, and heritage brought together under one roof on York Road, so there's plenty to see regardless of where your interest lies.
On the music side, the choir leads the way, and they're joined by ceoltas — traditional Irish music played in the session style. If you're more into the dancing, there will be Irish dancing schools performing, so you'll see the tradition in action rather than just hearing it. It's not all on stage, either: there are community groups involved, and a focus on Irish language and heritage, alongside Irish arts and literature. Carmel Kelly and Leeds CCE are also part of the day's line-up.
Because it's a day-long event rather than a single show, you can pick your way through it. You might start with the choir, move on to the dancing, and then spend some time with the language and heritage side of things. It's a broad look at Irish culture in Leeds, with music, dance, and writing all in the same building.
