Clinton Baptiste, the clairvoyant medium from 'Phoenix Nights', brings his show 'Spectral Intercourse' to The Wardrobe.
Clinton Baptiste is back at The Wardrobe on Tuesday 8 December, with his new show Spectral Intercourse. If the name sounds familiar, it's because he's the nation's favourite clairvoyant medium — the useless psychic who first made his name on Peter Kay's comedy hit Phoenix Nights. This is a return to the stage for him, and the venue has its own connection to the character: The Wardrobe is the same place that originally made him famous through Phoenix Nights.
Spectral Intercourse is built around him reaching out to the spirit world to answer the audience's queries and dilemmas, so it's a night where the crowd gets involved. He's not on his own, either; he's supported by Barry from Watford, a funny octogenarian who adds his own part to the mix. The bill brings together the best of his recent work and brand-new material, and as always he joins the crowd to deliver truthful but startling readings.
It's a show that's already drawn praise from Joe Lycett, Rob Brydon and Chris Moyles, and Baptiste has completed a fourth sell-out UK tour. This particular run is billed as an intimate seasonal event, and given the venue's history with the character, it feels like a bit of a homecoming. It's a good shout for a Tuesday night out in the city, especially if you've followed him since the Phoenix Nights days.
