Northern Irish folk singer Cara Dillon brings her annual Christmas tour, Upon A Winter's Night, to the Howard Assembly Room.
Cara Dillon returns to the Howard Assembly Room on Sunday 6 December, part of her annual Christmas tour. The Northern Irish folk singer hails from Dungiven, County Derry, and has built her reputation on a clear, expressive voice and a deep connection to traditional music. She won the All Ireland singing trophy at the age of 14, and her 2001 debut solo album earned two BBC Folk Awards; eight more albums followed, blending classic folk songs with original material.
On stage she works with her husband and musical partner, Sam Lakeman, and together they mix traditional and contemporary elements. That approach has drawn a following that includes a BBC Radio 2 Folk Award for Album of the Year, a Meteor Music Award for Best Irish Female, and Tatler's Woman of the Year in Music. The Sunday Times described her work as 'simple and stunning', and the BBC called it 'an instant Christmas classic'.
This particular show is part of her annual Christmas tour, Upon A Winter's Night, and this year marks the album's tenth anniversary. The set pairs ancient carols with contemporary folk songs, so you'll hear the old alongside the newer. It's a seasonal tradition she's been returning to for years, and this edition celebrates a decade since the record first came out.
