Live gig by the slacker twang quartet Brown Horse, with Leeds musician Neve Cariad, at the Brudenell Social Club.
Brown Horse play Brudenell Social Club on Wednesday 28 October, with Leeds-based musician Neve Cariad joining them on the bill. It's a Brudenell Presents night, and the set will draw from their third album, Total Dive, which came out on Loose Music on 10 April.
Brown Horse are a British slacker twang quartet, and they describe Total Dive as their strongest and most grounded work so far. The record pulls from a few different places: the stark country rock of Uncle Tupelo, the raw intimacy of early Cat Power, and the haunted landscapes of Magnolia Electric Co., while keeping the self-possessed noisiness of alt-rock trailblazers like Built to Spill and The Breeders. It's a fair bit of ground to cover in one record, and the live set should show how those threads pull together.
That sound is bolstered by drummer Ben Rodwell and the vocal harmonies of Neve Cariad, who is a Leeds musician in her own right and appears on the album. Their previous singles, 'Twisters' and 'Sorrow Reigns', have picked up praise from The Guardian, Mojo, Uncut (where they got an 8/10), The Times and Stereogum, so there's a good bit of ground to work from beyond the new material.
