Contemporary Scottish folk band Breabach perform live at the historic Howard Assembly Room in Leeds.
Breabach play the Howard Assembly Room on Saturday 17 October, presented by Brudenell Social Club. It's a Scottish folk band that's been around for over twenty years, and they're playing with guests on the bill.
They've built their sound on a mix of Highland and Island Gaelic tradition and more progressive influences. On stage, that looks like double bagpipes, fiddle, whistle, step-dance and song, all held together by double bass and guitar. It's a lot of instruments to fit into one band, and they've spent two decades working them together.
They've spent that time collaborating across genres, too. They've worked with Quebec's Le Vent du Nord, BAFTA-winning animator Cat Bruce, Australasian artist Moana & the Tribe, video game composer Big Giant Circles, and Cape Breton's Beòlach. They've played with the Scottish National Jazz Orchestra and, most recently, Darius Rucker at the Grand Ole Opry: Live in London show at the Royal Albert Hall. They've released eight studio albums, played venues from the Sydney Opera House to Central Park in New York, won six BBC ALBA Traditional Music Awards and a 2023 German Record Critics' Award, and were European Folk Group of the Year finalists at the Songlines Awards.
