Hands-on barista training course at North Star Coffee Roasters on Leeds Dock, with professional kit and tailored feedback from a coffee expert.
North Star Coffee Roasters are running their barista course at the Coffee Hub in Leeds Dock this Friday, 24 October. It's part of North Star Academy, the training arm they've set up for home brewers, coffee lovers and hospitality professionals. The Hub itself is a dedicated learning space right next to their coffee shop and general store, so you're working in the same building where the coffee is roasted.
The whole point of the course is to close the gap between professional baristas and coffee enthusiasts, giving you the skills to brew as well as the roaster does. You'll be working with professional-level kit, including La Marzocco espresso machines and Mahlkรถnig and Fiorenzato grinders, and the session is capped at four people so a coffee expert can give you tailored feedback throughout. It's a hands-on morning, not a lecture, so you'll spend the time actually making coffee rather than just watching someone else do it.
When you finish, you don't leave empty-handed. You'll get a North Star Academy tote bag, a 250g bag of coffee to take home, and a Certificate of Participation. There's also 20% off lunch at the coffee shop next door, which is a handy way to round off the morning. The minimum age is 12, and under-16s need to be accompanied by an adult.
