Three sculptors who received the Leeds Art Fund Accelerator Bursary talk about their work with curator Dr Elizaveta Butakova.
Elrick Boldy, Ewan Summerton and Iona Ogilvy-Stuart are talking sculpture at Leeds Art Gallery on Saturday 14 November, from 14:00 to 16:00. They'll be in conversation with the gallery's curator, Dr Elizaveta Butakova, introducing their work and talking through how they make sculpture.
All three are recent graduates from Leeds' art schools, and this year they're the recipients of the Accelerator Bursary, which is funded by the Leeds Art Fund and now in its second year. The bursary is designed for artists making the transition out of art school and into their early careers, and it gives them a shared studio at Assembly House in Armley along with mentoring from professionals. Assembly House itself is home to more than 70 contemporary artists and creatives, so they've spent the year working alongside a fair few other makers in the same building.
They all work with sculptural forms, but the materials they use couldn't be further apart. Between them, they cover steel and bronze, found objects, natural materials, and even living bacterial byproducts. That's a lot of ground to cover in one afternoon, and the talk is a chance to hear them each talk about their own practice and how they approach making.

The session is part of the Fund's annual programme of talks and lectures at Leeds Art Gallery, which pairs established artists and curators with emerging names. It's open to non-members as well as members, so you don't need to be part of the fund to come along. Tickets are £7.50 for members and £10.00 standard, and the whole thing runs from 14:00 to 16:00 on Saturday 14 November at the gallery in the city centre.
