London post-punk trio Alien Chicks play the Hyde Park Book Club on Headingley Lane.
Alien Chicks play Hyde Park Book Club on Thursday 21 January, with the show presented by Futuresound. It's a London band coming up to Leeds, and they're a post-punk power trio—three people, loud and tight. Their sound pulls from jazz, rap and math rock, and they describe their songs as a twisted fairy-tale of post-Brexit Britain, told with surreal social commentary, punchy rhythms and eclectic time signatures. If you're not familiar with math rock, that's the bit where the time signatures shift and the rhythms get a bit tricky, so it's more of a listening gig than a stand-and-sway one.
They hail from the streets of South London and have been building a grassroots following as a live act since their first gig in October 2021. Over the last few years, they've become known as 'the new house band' at the Windmill in Brixton, a venue with a reputation for championing the city's best new guitar bands, so they're well-practised at playing for a room that knows its way around a loud guitar. This is one of their dates outside London, bringing that same live set up to Leeds.

The show is at the Hyde Park Book Club on Headingley Lane, a 150-capacity room, so it's a relatively small space. It's for ages 14 and over, and the music starts at 7:30pm. Tickets are £14.62, which includes the booking fee.
