A storytime session for toddlers through song, dance, and movement games that build early literacy and language skills.
Toddler Storytime is at the Central Library on Thursday, October 15, from 10:30 to 11:00 AM. It's a session built for toddlers who aren't ready to sit still, so instead of a traditional read-aloud, it turns storytime into an active half-hour of song, dance, and movement games. The library describes it as a way to build early literacy and language skills through movement, so it's more of a get-up-and-move thing than a sit-and-listen one.
The session is held at the Central Library, the main resource library of the Kansas City Public Library system. The building has a bit of history to it: it moved into its current spot in 2004 after remodeling the former First National Bank. The restored 1906 bank lobby is still one of the library's most striking spaces, and the popular materials collection on the first floor sits right among the original columns. Up on the third floor is the Grand Reading Room, modeled on early 20th-century library reading rooms, with a 34-foot ceiling and a skylight.
