An open-mic storytelling competition where participants share true, personal stories on the theme 'Home for the Holidays'.
The Moth is bringing its StorySLAM to Knuckleheads Garage on Monday, November 9, for a night built around the theme Home for the Holidays. If you've never been to a Moth show, the format is pretty simple: it's an open-mic storytelling competition where anyone can sign up to take the stage and share a true, personal story from their own life. Each storyteller gets five minutes to tell their tale, and the only rule is that it has to be true.
This particular edition centers on the holiday season, and the organizers are calling for stories that touch on every side of it. They're looking for the humor, the heartbreak, the tension and the nostalgia that tie us to the people in our lives—everything from the chaos of family gatherings to an unexpected reunion. Because it's an open mic, the stories come from the people in the room, so the night depends on who shows up with something to tell.
It's a low-stakes way to get involved if you've ever wanted to try storytelling: you just bring a five-minute true story that fits the theme and take your turn. If you'd rather just listen, that works too. The whole point is the variety—one person might bring a funny family disaster, and the next might share something more quiet and personal, and they both fit under the same roof.
