Strategy Games

Strategy Games comes to the Plaza Branch of the Kansas City Public Library on Friday, November 13, from 5:30 to 7:30 PM. It's part of the library's Friday Night Family Fun series, so the whole evening is built around families sitting down together and working through a game. The session is open to ages 3 and up, which means it's as much for the little ones as it is for the adults.

On the table, you'll find strategic games like Connect Four and Blokus—the kind of titles that are easy to pick up but take a bit of thinking to master. The library frames this as more than just a game night, though. They describe strategic play as a tool for building critical thinking and emotional resilience in young children, and the sessions are set up so families can work through a game together, whether it's a well-known classic or something entirely new to them. It's less about winning and more about the process of playing through it as a group.

If you've got kids at home, it's a low-pressure way to spend a Friday evening. You bring the family, pick a game, and spend a couple of hours working through it. The session runs from 5:30 to 7:30 PM on Friday, November 13, at the Plaza Branch.
