A live Kansas City jazz jam session featuring pianist Bram Wijnands and bassist Rick Willoughby, with a rotating cast of local musicians, held at the Kansas City Bier Company.
The Second Tuesday Jam Session is back at Kansas City Bier Company on Tuesday, October 13, and it's exactly what the name says: a jazz jam session that happens on the second Tuesday of every month. The night pairs German-style bier with Kansas City jazz, and the two sit together in the same room.
The jam is built around a regular duo: pianist Bram Wijnands and bassist Rick Willoughby. They're the anchor for the evening, and each night they're rounded out by a rotating cast of local musicians on horns, guitars, drums, and even spoons. The music is played spontaneously, so the lineup changes from one session to the next, and the set depends on who shows up that night. If you play, you're invited to bring your own instrument and join in.
Kansas City Bier Company is the city's largest locally owned brewery, and the taproom and beer garden are in the Waldo neighborhood. It's run by locals and known for live music, so the jam fits right in. The brewery is at 310 West 79th Street, Kansas City, MO 64114.
