Oktoberfest celebration featuring local beer from Martin City Brewery and KC Bier Co., Oktoberfest bites, Kansas City barbecue, and the venue's legendary Beer Stein Holding competition.
Char Bar Westport is bringing Oktoberfest to the heart of historic Westport on Friday, October 16, from 5 PM to 9 PM. It's a free event, so you can just drop in whenever you're ready.
Char Bar Smoked Meats and Amusements is run by pitmaster Mitch Benjamin, who brings his smoke and world award-winning sauces to the table. More than a few claim it's the best barbecue spot in Kansas City, and that's a high bar to clear in a town that takes its pits seriously. The Oktoberfest gathering leans on that reputation, pairing Kansas City barbecue with Oktoberfest bites and local beer from Martin City Brewery and KC Bier Co. If you're coming for the food and drink, you've got two of the city's big names on tap to wash it down.
The night is built around the venue's legendary Beer Stein Holding competition, where you hold a full stein for as long as you can and walk away with prizes if you're among the last standing. It's the kind of thing that usually turns into a spectator sport, with a crowd cheering on whoever's still holding on. And if you happen to own lederhosen, wearing them gets you bonus points.
