A live jazz performance by the Joel Frahm Trio, presented by the Kansas City Jazz Orchestra, with food and drinks available at Tom's Town Distilling Co.
The Joel Frahm Trio plays Tom's Town Distilling Co. on Friday, October 16, with the Kansas City Jazz Orchestra presenting. It's a night of live jazz, food, and drinks at the distillery on Main Street.
Joel Frahm is the front man here on tenor saxophone, and he's a name that carries some weight with jazz listeners. His style pulls from a wide stretch of the American musical tradition—jazz and funk, but rock and blues too—so it's not just straight-ahead swing. The trio is an international one: Frahm is paired with Toronto bandleader and drummer Ernesto Cervini and composer, bandleader, and bassist Dan Loomis. Together they've put out The Bright Side on Anzic Records, which came out in 2021 and picked up four stars from Downbeat and a feature on NPR's Fresh Air.
With Frahm on sax, Cervini on drums, and Loomis on bass, the group is a lean, three-piece setup. It's a night presented by the Kansas City Jazz Orchestra, so it fits right into the city's jazz calendar. The music is the main event, with food and drinks available at the venue.
