The Kansas City Mavericks open their 2026-27 home season with 'Barn Party Night', a celebration featuring the Teddy Bear Toss before facing the Rapid City Rush.
The Kansas City Mavericks open their 2026-27 home season at Cable Dahmer Arena on Friday, October 16, at 7:05 PM, taking on the Rapid City Rush. They're calling it 'Barn Party Night,' a celebration built around welcoming hockey back to Kansas City.
It's a good time to get back in the stands. The Mavericks are coming off a 2025-26 campaign that saw them run all the way to the Kelly Cup Finals, and they're keeping the same professional ties that helped get them there: they're still affiliated with the NHL's Seattle Kraken and the AHL's Coachella Valley Firebirds. On the bench, General Manager and Head Coach Tad O'Had has been extended through the 2027-28 season, and Billy Maloney has stepped in as Director of Hockey Operations.
The home opener is just the start of a few things returning to the schedule. The Teddy Bear Toss is back, one of the team's most recognizable traditions: new and tagged stuffed animals are thrown onto the ice after the Mavericks score their first goal, and then donated to local organizations and children across the Kansas City community. This season also introduces a new series of seven 'Sensory Sundays,' designed to let fans experience the game their own way.
