A storytelling event held among the graves of Union Cemetery, co-presented by Young Friends of the Kansas City Public Library, with stories inspired by 'The Twilight Zone'.
FrankenWines returns to Union Cemetery on Tuesday, October 13, for another night of storytelling among the graves. It's a co-presentation by Young Friends of the Kansas City Public Library and the Union Cemetery Historical Society of Kansas City, and this year's stories are built around the spirit of The Twilight Zoneโso expect the surreal and the unsettling rather than the straightforward.
If you've never been, the setting is a big part of the draw. Union Cemetery is Kansas City's oldest public cemetery, the final resting place of 55,000 souls. That includes many of the city's founders alongside politicians, artists, entrepreneurs, veterans, and everyday residents, so you're listening to these stories in the company of a good chunk of the city's history. The stories are told right there among the headstones, which fits the theme better than any stage could.
This year's program features Park Bucker and Zach Lickerman. Both are local storytellers who'll be taking the lead on the night's lineup. Since the theme is The Twilight Zone, the stories lean into that same kind of eerie, twisty territoryโthe kind of tales that start in the familiar and slide into something strange.
