A family-friendly board games session featuring classic games like Chutes and Ladders and Sorry!, part of the library's Friday Night Family Fun series.
Classic Board Games is coming to the Kansas City Public Library, Plaza Branch on Friday, November 20, from 5:30 to 7:30 PM. It's a night for the games you probably grew up with—the ones that don't really change, no matter how many years go by. They'll have titles like Chutes and Ladders and Sorry! on the tables, so you can just pull up a chair and start playing.
The night is part of the library's Friday Night Family Fun series and International Games Month, a program that celebrates board games that never go out of style and are pitched at all ages. The whole series at the Plaza Branch covers a lot of ground: Strategy Games, with Connect Four and Blokus; Word Games, like Codenames and Wordle; and Fall Fun HalloSTEAM activities. There's also the signature Big Read Storytime, where Kansas City author Rebekah Taussig reads her children's book, We Are the Scrappy Ones.
This particular session focuses on the classics, the kind of games that are easy to pick up and work for kids and adults together. It's open to everyone aged 3 and up, so it's as much for the little ones as it is for the grown-ups who want to relive a few childhood rivalries. If you've got a family with young kids, it's a low-stakes way to spend a Friday evening without having to set anything up or clean it up afterward.
