A cream tea and tea presentation exploring the history and traditions of tea in Ireland and England, with vendors, buttery shortbread, scones, and traditional tea service.
A Cup of History: Tea in Ireland and England is at the Kansas City Irish Center on Sunday, October 11, from 2 PM to 4:30 PM. It's a cream tea and a presentation that looks at the history and traditions of tea in Ireland and England, and there will be vendors on site too.
The food is a big part of it. You'll get buttery shortbread and freshly baked scones served with lemon curd, jam, and butter. To drink, there are three varieties of tea poured from traditional teapots into fine china teacups. The presentation runs alongside the tea, so you can eat and drink while you hear about how tea became such a fixture in both cultures.
It's hosted by the Kansas City Irish Center, which is the hub for Irish activities in the city. They describe themselves as dedicated to celebrating, supporting, preserving, and promoting Irish heritage and culture. Beyond one-off events like this, they run Irish language and dance classes, hold monthly Céilí nights, host a monthly Sláinte Social, and put on an annual Irish Gala.
