A family-friendly festival celebrating Lunar New Year with live performances, artmaking activities, traditional cuisine and educational experiences in the museum's Asian art galleries.
The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art is hosting its Lunar New Year Festival on Sunday, January 31, 2027, from 10 AM to 4 PM. It's part of the museum's regular series of free festivals that celebrate art, culture, and special holidays, and this one centers on the traditional celebration marking the beginning of the new year on the lunar calendar, observed across China and several East and Southeast Asian countries.
Throughout the day, the museum fills with live performances and demonstrations by local artists, and there are artmaking activities for the whole family to get involved in. Traditional cuisine will be on hand, and the festival includes educational experiences set within the museum's Asian art galleries, so you can see the art and the celebration in the same space.
