Family storytime with Sikh-Punjabi stories by Komal Kaur and Anoopreet Kaur, followed by a hands-on civic engagement poster activity and a discussion about belonging.
Zara Tales comes to the Southport Branch of the Indianapolis Public Library on Saturday, October 24, from 11 AM to 12:30 PM. It's a storytelling session presented in partnership with Zara Consulting, and it's built around two stories from the Sikh-Punjabi community.
Komal Kaur reads Walks to the Lake with Babaji and Bibiji, and Anoopreet Kaur shares The Stolen River. The two stories make up the first half of the morning, and they're presented as a family storytime—the kind of thing you can bring kids to, but that works just as well for adults. The organizers describe it as a multicultural event open to all ages, from preschoolers to seniors and educators, so it's one of those rare Saturday mornings where you don't have to choose between a kids' activity and something for yourself.
After the stories, the session shifts into a hands-on civic engagement poster activity. That leads into an open discussion about belonging, celebrating differences, and how to support classmates who look different from us. It's a conversation that starts with the stories and moves into the room, so it's as much about talking as it is about listening.
