A concert by the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra at the University of Indianapolis to commemorate the 200th anniversary of Beethoven's death.
The Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra is bringing a chamber program to the Christel DeHaan Fine Arts Center on Monday, March 29, 2027. The concert is titled 200 Years of Beethoven, and it's given in honor of the bicentennial of Beethoven's passing.
Rather than a full orchestra, this is a small ensemble. The program features pianist Gregory Martin, ISO Associate Principal Second violin Bella Seo, and Associate Principal cello Jiyeon Lee. With just those three on stage, the music will be stripped down to a piano trio—piano, violin, and cello—which is one of the most intimate ways to hear Beethoven. It's a far cry from the massive sound of a full symphony, and it puts the focus on the individual lines and the conversation between the instruments.
That smaller scale fits the occasion. The concert marks 200 years since Beethoven died, and the program is built around that anniversary. The three musicians are all from the ISO, so you're getting the symphony's sound in a chamber setting, with the piano trio taking center stage.
