Psych-rock band Temples play their album 'Bliss' at HI-FI in the historic Murphy Arts Center, with supporting act GIFT.
Temples play HI-FI on Wednesday, December 9, with GIFT opening. The psych-rock four-piece formed in Kettering, England, around James Bagshaw on vocals and guitar, Thomas Walmsley on bass, Adam Smith on keyboards and guitar, and Rens Ottink on drums. They're touring their fifth album, Bliss, which they produced entirely themselves.
That's a shift from their previous record, Exotico, released in 2023. The band says Exotico felt overlooked and they hit a creative standstill afterward, before signing with V2 Records and getting back to working together in person. Bliss moves into electronic territory while keeping their core psych-rock DNA, blending late '90s dance-music melodies with psych-tinged riffs and loops, self-sampling, and the lead single "Jet Stream Heart."
They've listed a long string of influences from that era: Faithless, Underworld, The Prodigy, Air, Röyksopp, Moby, Massive Attack, Orbital, and Portishead. They describe Bliss as channeling the bittersweet euphoria of that period. The set will center on the new material, with GIFT handling the opening slot.
