30-minute storytime for babies, toddlers and preschoolers with books, felt boards, movement activities and a song sing led by the branch's mascot, Mammoth.
Sunshine Storytime is back at the Martindale-Brightwood Branch on Wednesday, November 25, from 10:30 to 11:00 AM. It's a traditional library storytime for babies, toddlers, preschoolers, and their families, and it runs for 30 minutes.
The session mixes a few different things into one half-hour: books, felt boards, movement activities, and a hootenanny-style song sing. Leading the singing is the branch's woolly mammoth mascot, Mammoth, so the music side of things has a bit of a character behind it. The whole program follows the early-literacy habits of read, talk, and sing, which are the core recommendations of the American Library Association's 'Every Child Ready to Read' program.
If you haven't been to this branch before, it's worth a mention. The Martindale-Brightwood Branch opened in 2020 as a brand-new building across the street from the previous site, which had served the Brightwood community since 1901 as the sixth public library in Indianapolis. So while the building is new, the library has a long history in the neighborhood.
