Concert by WFYI's home-grown a cappella group Straight No Chaser at the Murat Theatre.
Straight No Chaser are playing the Murat Theatre at Old National Centre on Sunday, December 20, from 3 PM to 5 PM. If you've been following them, you know the deal: they're an a cappella group, so it's just voices on stage, no instruments. The Murat is at 502 N New Jersey St, right in the heart of downtown Indianapolis.
There's a bit of a local connection here that's worth mentioning. Straight No Chaser is WFYI's own home-grown a cappella group, and this performance puts them back in front of the audience. For a group that started out of the city's own public media scene, it's a homecoming of sorts, and they're returning to the stage in the same city that's been part of their story from the start.
Since they're a cappella, the whole show is built on vocal harmony. No drums, no guitars, no piano—just the voices doing all the work. It's a specific kind of performance that relies on the blend of the singers, and hearing it in a room like the Murat puts that right at the center of the experience. If you've never seen them live, this is a good place to start.
