Morning storytime session at the Garfield Park branch of the Indianapolis Public Library.
Storytime is back at the Garfield Park Branch of the Indianapolis Public Library on Wednesday, October 21, from 10:30 AM to 11:00 AM. It's a short, half-hour session, so it fits easily into a mid-morning outing with little ones.
If you haven't spent much time there, the branch is at 2502 Shelby Street, right next to Garfield Park. It's got a bit of a story behind it: the library was originally housed in old School No. 34 back in 1918, and a new building went up at the current Shelby Street spot in 1965. It reopened in 2011 after a major renovation, and the neighborhood chose the name Garfield Park Branch to honor the park it sits beside. It's a good spot to hang out even after the session ends.
Beyond the books, the branch has a couple of things that make it more than just a place to borrow a read. There's a Storytime Garden on the grounds, and from March through September, they run a Seed Library where you can pick up seeds for your own garden. If you're visiting in the fall, the garden is still there to wander through, even if the seed exchange is on hiatus until spring.
