Library storytime with stories, songs and early literacy activities for toddlers from 18 months to 3 years.
Storytime at Franklin Road - Toddlers is on Wednesday, October 21, at the Franklin Road Branch of the Indianapolis Public Library. It's part of the library's Story Time series, and this particular session is for toddlers from 18 months to 3 years. The hour is filled with stories, songs, and early literacy activities—the kind of things that get little ones comfortable with books and sounds before they're even talking in full sentences.
If you haven't spent much time there, the Franklin Road Branch is at 5550 South Franklin Road, and it's a good example of how the library has grown with the city. The current building is an 18,000-square-foot facility that opened in 2000 to replace the Wanamaker Branch, which had been serving the area since 1969. Before the Wanamaker even opened, the neighborhood had years of volunteer-staffed service running out of an empty church building. The move to the Franklin Road location came as Franklin Township was growing fast, and the larger space was built to keep up with that.
That history is a nice reminder of how these local branches start—often as a small, community-run effort—and eventually become the permanent spots where kids in the neighborhood first start reading. This session fits right into that, as part of a wider series of story times the library runs for different age groups.
