Computer and technology class for adults at the Wayne Branch Library about social media platforms, algorithms and building a profile.
Social Media 101 is coming to the Wayne Branch Library on Wednesday, November 4, from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM. It's a computer and technology class run by the Indianapolis Public Library for adults, made possible by The Indianapolis Public Library Foundation.
The session is designed to break down the basics of how social media actually works. It starts with the landscape: what types of platforms exist and why people choose one over another. From there, it gets into the essential components of the algorithm—the logic that decides what shows up in your feed—and how to build a profile from the ground up. It also covers the social media do's and don'ts, the kind of practical etiquette that's easier to learn from someone else than by trial and error.
The class is held at the Wayne Branch Library, which has been a part of the neighborhood for a long time. It first opened in December 1969 in a shopping center at 7341 Rockville Road; its storefront was enlarged in 1973, and a permanent 13,500-square-foot location opened in 1984, the building it still occupies today. A $1.1 million renovation in 2020 added seating, activity space, study rooms, and a quiet reading area, while keeping the split design of separate children's and adult wings.
