Free children's opera that weaves music by Mozart and Verdi to teach children about believing in themselves.
The Indianapolis Opera is bringing Sing Me a Story to the Eagle Branch of the Indianapolis Public Library on Saturday, October 24. It's an original children's opera, and the whole point of the production is to bring opera into the library rather than expecting people to seek it out at a concert hall. If you've got kids, it's a good way to introduce them to the form without it feeling like a formal affair.
The show weaves in music from some of the biggest names in opera, including Mozart and Verdi, so you'll hear those familiar sounds working their way through the story. It's not just about the music, though; the production is built around a theme of believing in yourself, which gives the whole thing a bit of a heart beyond the singing.
