Bluegrass quartet Sicard Hollow, a psychedelic punk-grass band from Nashville, plays HI-FI in the historic Murphy Arts Center.
Sicard Hollow play HI-FI on Sunday, November 15, with doors at 7 PM and the show starting at 8 PM. It's an all-ages night presented by IndyMojo Presents, and the venue is inside the historic Murphy Arts Center in Fountain Square.
If you're not familiar with them, Sicard Hollow is a bluegrass quartet from Nashville that describes itself as a psychedelic punk-grass band. They formed in 2018, and the four musicians who make up the group had never really considered playing bluegrass before they met. Violinist Matt Rennick was working on electronic music; mandolin player and vocalist Will Herrin had played guitar in rock bands; and guitarist and vocalist Alex King was barely playing music at all—he'd spent years as an artist without a single art form to call his own. That mix of backgrounds is a good clue to how they approach the music.
Their debut record, Secret of the Breeze, was produced by John Mailander and engineered by Dan Davis. It blends pop-punk melodies, psychedelic instrumental breaks, and existential songwriting, and the release tour was cancelled by the pandemic. The show is just the band, so you'll get to hear those elements—the punk hooks, the trippy instrumental stretches, and the songwriting—live on stage. It's a good chance to catch a band that doesn't come from a traditional bluegrass background playing their own take on the style.
