Storytime with stories, songs and crafts followed by sensory playtime in a low-light, sensory-friendly environment.
Sensory Friendly Storytime kicks off at the Fort Ben Library Branch on Thursday, October 22, and it's a program that runs every Thursday through December 17. If you've got a little one who gets overwhelmed by the usual noise and lights of a public space, this is exactly the kind of thing that makes a library feel welcoming.
The session starts with the storytime part: stories, songs, and crafts. It's the familiar routine you'd expect from a library morning, with the reading and the singing coming first. After that, the room shifts into sensory playtime. The lights go low, and the environment is kept sensory-friendly, so kids can explore and play at their own pace without the usual sensory overload that can make a trip to the library feel like a lot to handle. It's a two-part morning—structured storytime first, then open play in a calm space.
Because it repeats every Thursday from October 22 through December 17, you don't have to fit it into a single day. If you miss one week, there's another one coming the next. It's a steady thing to count on for a few months rather than a one-off event.

Storytime runs from 10:30 AM to 11:15 AM at the Fort Ben Library Branch, also known as the Michigan Road Branch, in Indianapolis. It's a short window—forty-five minutes from start to finish—so you're in and out before the midday rush.
