Noise-rock and post-punk band Prostitute perform with local opener Grenadelia at HI-FI.
Prostitute play HI-FI on Monday, October 19, with Indianapolis alternative band Grenadelia opening. Prostitute are a noise-rock and post-punk outfit from Dearborn, Michigan, started by the duo Moe on vocals and Andrew on drums and lyrics, who later added guitarists Ross and Bret.
Their debut album, Attempted Martyr, pulls from a shared interest in literature, horror, and extreme music, but it's the Arabic elements that really set it apart. That sound is rooted in their upbringing in Dearborn, home to the largest Muslim population in the U.S., and the record draws on a wide range of references: Cormac McCarthy's Blood Meridian, the figure of personal-injury lawyer Joumana Kayrouz, and the 1977 siege by Hamaas Abdul Khaalis. The band is reportedly working on a follow-up that leans even deeper into those Arabic influences.
Opening for them is Grenadelia, an Indianapolis alternative band that started in Conner Peckinpaugh's basement during a party the night before Halloween. They added guitarist Lilly Bosanquet in early 2023 and put out their debut, Grenadelia, followed by the sophomore Crisis Season, before moving into a highly experimental period by 2026.
