Open mic night for local and regional poets to read or listen to original poetry on the deck at the historic Irving Theater.
The Irving Theater is hosting its poetry open mic tonight, October 15, from 7 to 9 PM. It's a night for local and regional poets to read their original work on the deck, and you can either sign up to read or just come and listen. If you're not ready to step up to the mic, it's still a good spot to hear what's being written around the city.
This is part of a four-week run on Thursday nights throughout October, so tonight is one of four chances to catch it. The other dates are October 8, 22, and 29, all from 7 to 9 PM. If you've got a few pieces you've been working on, you can bring them to one night or spread them across several.
The theater is a historic movie house at 5505 East Washington Street, and the open mic takes place on the deck. It's known for a fun and funky vibe and marvelous acoustics, and it hosts a variety of events alongside Irvington Ghost Tours, Fresh Wednesday Markets, and an acoustic open mic. The poetry night fits right into that mix.

If you're already following the city's open-mic scene, you know this is one of several spots to find it. Kafe' Kuumba, Vocab Indy, and Vibe on Wednesday are other regular rooms in Indianapolis where people gather to read and listen. This one just happens to be on the east side, on the deck of a former cinema.
Admission is free. The open mic runs from 7 to 9 PM tonight, October 15, at The Irving Theater, 5505 East Washington Street.
