Career session led by a fire service professional about working in firefighting, the skills needed and career options in the field.
Meet a Professional: Firefighting Careers is happening at the Spades Park Branch of the Indianapolis Public Library on Wednesday, November 18, from 3 PM to 4 PM. A professional from the fire service will lead the session, talking through what it's actually like to work in firefighting and laying out the different career paths in the field, including the skills you'll need to succeed.
It's aimed at people in the early stages of their career who are considering firefighting, but it's also for anyone looking for reliable information to pass on to young people. If you've got a kid or a younger sibling thinking about the fire service, this is a good place to get some straight answers from someone who does the job every day.
The venue itself has a bit of history. The Spades Park Branch was built with a $120,000 grant from the Andrew Carnegie Foundation and opened in 1912, just six months after the city's other remaining Carnegie library, the East Washington Branch. It's a 7,500-square-foot space that went through a $610,000 renovation in 1987 and celebrated its centenary in 2012.
