Educational session led by certified SHIP counselors on Medicare parts, costs and coverage for seniors and adults.
Medicare Basics: A Brief Look at the Parts of Medicare, Costs and Coverage comes to the Indianapolis Public Library on Monday, November 16, from 6 PM to 7 PM. It's an educational session that does exactly what the title says: it walks through the different parts of Medicare, what they cover, and what you'll end up paying. If you're getting close to Medicare age or helping a parent figure it out, it's a good place to start.
The session is led by certified State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) counselors. They provide free, impartial information with no sales pitch, which is the most important thing to know going in. SHIP is a free and impartial counseling program for people with Medicare, provided by the Administration for Community Living and the Indiana Department of Insurance. Because it's a public service, the counselors aren't there to sell you a specific plan; they're there to explain how the system works so you can make your own choice.
Over the course of the hour, they'll break down the different parts of Medicare—the A, B, C, and D that everyone talks about but few people fully grasp—and go over the costs and coverage associated with each. It's aimed at seniors and adults, and it sits right at the intersection of health and wellness and financial literacy, since the two are so tied together when you're planning for retirement.
