Modern jazz nonet Hickey-Shanafelt 9ollective marks five years with a full-band anniversary show and guest soloist Todd Williams at The Jazz Kitchen.
Hickey-Shanafelt 9ollective is playing The Jazz Kitchen on Tuesday, October 27, at 7 PM. It's a full-band show marking five years since the group started, and they're celebrating the milestone with a guest soloist on the bill.
The set draws from the group's three studio albums, so you'll hear material from across their recording history alongside brand-new pieces that haven't been recorded yet. It's a nonet, which means nine players on stage at onceβa big sound for a jazz ensemble.
That guest soloist is Todd Williams on tenor saxophone. He's toured with Wynton Marsalis' quintet and septet and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra; these days he lives and teaches at Indiana Wesleyan University. He'll be sharing the horn section with Brandon Douthitt on alto sax, Sean Imboden on tenor, and Evan Drybread on bari sax. Kent Hickey and Sam Butler are both on trumpet, and Tommy Neidecker takes the trombone. The rhythm section is rounded out by Charles Platz on guitar, Jesse Wittman on bass, and Chelsea Hughey on drums. Alex Shanafelt leads the group as conductor, composer, and pianist.
