Live show by singer-songwriter Em Beihold, known for her hit 'Numb Little Bug', at HI-FI in the Murphy Arts Center.
Em Beihold plays HI-FI on Saturday, November 7, with doors opening at 8 PM and the show starting at 9 PM. It's a single-artist bill, so she'll be the only one taking the stage that night.
If you recognize the name but can't quite place the music, you probably know "Numb Little Bug." That single broke through in 2022, inspired by her own experience taking antidepressants, and climbed into the Top 20 of the Billboard Hot 100. It went platinum and landed her on late-night TV, leading to collaborations and a full touring schedule. Before that, she'd spent years putting out independent releases and building an online following, so the song arrived after a long stretch of working on her own.
Her debut album, Tales of a Failed Shapeshifter, was written in part while she was in outpatient therapy. Much of it circles back to the same ground as "Numb Little Bug," with songs that look at comparison, co-dependency, and the different roles people try to inhabit. She describes her music as an exploration of identity, emotion, and self-discovery, and that's a good summary of what she's been working through across the record.
