Musical adaptation of A Christmas Carol with music and lyrics by Dolly Parton, set in the Smoky Mountains of East Tennessee.
Dolly Parton's Smoky Mountain Christmas Carol comes to Clowes Memorial Hall on Wednesday, December 23, at 7:30 PM. It's a musical adaptation of Dickens' A Christmas Carol, with music and lyrics by the eleven-time Grammy winner herself and a book by David H. Bell, adapted by Bell, Curt Wollan and Paul T. Couch.
The story moves the action to the 1930s in the Smoky Mountains of East Tennessee. Ebenezer Scrooge is reimagined as the owner of a mining-company town, whose callous greed blinds him to the joys of the season. On Christmas Eve, as a snowstorm approaches, he's visited by his deceased business partner and three ghosts, who compel him to see life anew and discover that love is the greatest gift of all. The production is billed as a new American classic, family-friendly with no strong language or sexual innuendo, and is recommended for ages 8 and up.
