Monthly First Friday gathering where the curator shares the Harrison family's connection to America's founding ideals and highlights items from its historic collection over coffee and donuts.
Coffee with the Curator is part of the First Friday series at the Benjamin Harrison Presidential Site, which runs on the first Friday of every month. It's a 30-minute session where the curator opens a chapter of the Harrison family's connection to America's founding ideals and pulls a few of the collection's most interesting, amazing, and unexpected items out for a closer look. Coffee and donuts are provided by Tinker Coffee Co.
The site itself preserves the family home of the 23rd U.S. president and First Lady Caroline Scott Harrison, and it houses a collection of nearly 3,000 books, several of them by Charles Dickens. That literary side of the family comes through in the site's immersive, historically themed events: LIVE! Election Day brings the Harrison family to life as they await the 1888 presidential election results, and A Dickens Christmas draws on the family's book collection. Coffee with the Curator fits into that same tradition of bringing the house's history out from the archives and into the room.
