Free concert by folk and Americana singer-songwriter Carsie Blanton and her band The Good Kind at HI-FI in the Murphy Arts Center.
Carsie Blanton plays HI-FI on Wednesday, May 5, 2027, with MOKB Presents putting on the show. Blanton is an Americana and folk singer-songwriter and activist who works in the tradition of Woody Guthrie, Nina Simone, and the artist-activist songbook. She blends folk, swing, and pop-punk protest songs with infectious melodies, lyrical wit, and a bit of vaudeville flair.
She's spent more than fifteen years on the road with her band, The Good Kind, and has built a following of her own along the way. A few of her songs have gone viralโ'Rich People', 'Ugly Nasty Commie Bitch', 'The Democrats', and 'Fishin' With You'โand she now sells out shows across the U.S., Europe, and Canada. In 2024, she put out two records: After the Revolution, produced by Grammy winner Tyler Chester, and The Red Album, an acoustic EP of protest songs.
Off stage, she stays active in the same circles her songs come from. She volunteers as a political organizer with Artists Against Apartheid and the Party for Socialism and Liberation, and she's written for The Nation. Critics have described her songs as "beautiful, militant anthems" (Ken Tucker, NPR's Fresh Air) and said she's "fighting fascism with big hooks and an even bigger heart" (American Songwriter).
