Bilingual storytime in English and Spanish for preschoolers, babies and toddlers at the Lawrence Branch of the Indianapolis Public Library.
Bilingual Storytime comes to the Lawrence Branch of the Indianapolis Public Library on Monday, November 16, from 6:30 PM to 7:00 PM. It's a story hour told in both English and Spanish, and it's aimed at preschoolers, families, babies, and toddlers. If you've got little ones at home, it's a good way to get them around books in two languages at once.
For those who aren't as familiar with the branch, the Lawrence Branch is over on the north side at 7898 Hague Road. It's been around since 1967, when it first opened in a storefront on North Franklin Road that used to be the Lawrence Post Office—the first branch to open within an incorporated town in Marion County. A larger, permanent 13,500-square-foot facility took over in 1983, and the whole place got a renovation in 2020 that added group study and tutoring areas, better lighting, more charging outlets, and updated interiors. It's a full-service library, so if you're already there for the storytime, you can easily browse the stacks or pick up a few books to take home afterward.
The session is short—half an hour—and it's designed for the youngest crowd, so it's a low-pressure way to introduce kids to reading. The bilingual format means the stories are shared in English and Spanish, which works whether your family speaks one language, both, or is just starting to learn. It's made possible by The Indianapolis Foundation Library Fund through a grant to The Indianapolis Public Library Foundation.
