Preschool storytime with books, songs and games in English and Spanish at the Haughville branch of the Indianapolis Public Library.
Bilingual Storytime is back at the Haughville Branch on Wednesday, November 11, from 11 AM to 11:30 AM. It's a half-hour session built for preschoolers, families, babies, and toddlers, and it runs in both English and Spanish. The whole thing centers on books, songs, and games, so it's as much about moving and singing along as it is about listening to a story. If you've got little ones at home, it's a good way to get them around books and other kids on a weekday morning.
The session is made possible by The Indianapolis Foundation Library Fund through a grant to The Indianapolis Public Library Foundation, which keeps these kinds of programs running across the system. Since it's bilingual, it works whether your family speaks English, Spanish, or both.
There's a bit of history to the venue, too. The Haughville Branch is the longest continuously operating branch in the Indianapolis Public Library system. It started on the city's east side in 1896 and moved to the Haughville village after 1897. Its homes over the years have included the former town hall on Georgia Avenue, which a 1904 fire partially destroyed, and a storefront in the Michigan Plaza Shopping Center that served as the branch until 2003. The current 12,000-square-foot library opened on West Michigan Street that same year.
