Annual race-weekend parade with all 33 Indianapolis 500 drivers on floats, helium balloons and top marching bands down Meridian Street in downtown Indianapolis.
The Lucas Oil 500 Festival Parade returns to Downtown Indianapolis on Saturday, May 29, 2027, as part of the race-weekend traditions surrounding the Indy 500. It's a long-running one: the parade dates back to 1957 and is run by the 500 Festival, a not-for-profit that puts on more than 50 programs celebrating the spirit and legacy of the race. This year marks its 70th annual edition, and it's one of the biggest parades in the country, often ranked alongside the Pasadena Tournament of Roses and the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in scale. More than 200,000 people line the downtown streets to see the full starting field of the next morning's Indy 500 all in one place.
The lineup is built around the drivers: all 33 Indianapolis 500 drivers ride on floats, and they're joined by enormous helium balloons, extravagant floats and some of the top marching bands from across the country. Because of that, it's also regarded as one of the premier marching band events in the Midwest. Since its founding, the organization has contributed more than $500 million in economic value to Indianapolis.
