A high-powered concert experience celebrating the legendary funk artists like Parliament, Earth, Wind & Fire, Prince, and Michael Jackson, presented by Robbie Madison.
We Want The Funk! hits Doc's Houston on Thursday, October 8, with a set built around the artists who defined the sound of funk. The show is presented by Robbie Madison, a Houston-based recording artist, performer, and educator who leads worship for the Houston Texans and heads Madison Arts, a non-profit that supports independent artists. He'll be leading the night, with a rhythm section and horn line headed by Greg Petito and Felix DeLeon.
The program draws from Parliament, Earth, Wind & Fire, Prince, and Michael Jackson. The rhythm section and horn line bring those classics back to life, and they mix them with modern music crafted to lift the soul. It's a high-powered concert experience that keeps the focus on the artists who shaped the funk sound.
Doc's Houston is the city's newest jazz supper club, set inside the historic 1936 Tower Theatre in Montrose. It opened in 2025, started by bandleader and pianist Doc Watkins. The kitchen and bar stay open throughout the night, serving chef-crafted dishes and handcrafted cocktails, so you can eat and drink while the music is going.
