Talk with storyteller and mediator Karla F. West and a panel of experts on the causes and resolution of conflict.
Karla F. West brings Unconflicted with Karla to MATCHBOX 1 on Tuesday, October 27, from 6:30 to 8:15 PM. It's a talk and a panel on conflict and how to resolve it, and it's free with registration.
West is a storyteller, mediator, and TEDx speaker who works with leaders, teams, and communities to move through difficult conversations with more honesty, clarity, and courage. Her TEDx talk, Raise Your Hand If You're Racist, argues that racism lives not only in the loud, obvious act but also in the subtle choices we excuse—the snap judgments, the private language, and the small behaviors that keep it alive. She frames the examination as beginning closer than we think: in our assumptions, the words we use, and the choices we make in certain rooms. Unconflicted with Karla was created to bring awareness to conflict and conflict-resolution methods, and the evening's panel discusses the issues that cause and surround conflict.
Joining her on the panel are Rep. Jolanda Jones, Dr. Barbara Manousso, Dr. Ken Shuman, and Frederica Wooten, LPC. The show runs an hour and 45 minutes with one intermission. The venue, one of MATCH's two flexible black box theaters, allows presenters to customize the room with movable seating risers and adjustable capacity.
