Denver band The Yawpers play Shoeshine Charley's Big Top Lounge for the release party of their new album 'Teething'.
The Yawpers are playing Shoeshine Charley's Big Top Lounge on Saturday, October 17, for the release party of their new album, Teething. The band is coming in from Denver, and the night is built around the new record, so you'll hear the new material live right as it's coming out. Support is still to be announced, but they'll be the main draw.
It's a three-piece led by singer-songwriter and guitarist Nate Cook, with Jesse Parmet on guitar and bass and Adam Perry on drums. They took their name from Walt Whitman's promise to "sound my barbaric yawp over the roofs of the world," and the sound they've built around it sits somewhere between a grittier version of Wilco and a raw country sensibility, with a twisted indie imagination running through it. It's the kind of rock-and-roll that doesn't polish away the edges.

Since this is the release party for Teething, the set will lean on the new songs, and the night is billed as a live rock-and-roll party rather than a seated listening session. The Big Top opens at 8:30 PM, and The Yawpers take the stage at 9:30 PM. Advance tickets are $15, and they go up to $20 on the day of the show, with a $3 surcharge on top of both. The venue is 21+ unless you're accompanied by a parent.
